Leseverstehen Teil 4 is the last reading part of the telc Deutsch B1·B2 Pflege exam. You read one semi-formal information text and decide if 3 items are richtig or falsch. This guide gives the official format, a new practice text with 5 items, and the sentence that decides each item.
telc Pflege Lesen Teil 4: the format
telc describes Teil 4 in its official tips for exam preparation:

Teil 4 gives the fewest points of the four reading parts. Do not skip it. If you rush the last text in the 60-minute block, you can lose all 3 points. For the full exam structure, read our telc B1-B2 Pflege exam guide.
The one rule for richtig/falsch
telc gives one clear rule for Teil 4. Only the text decides if an item is richtig or falsch. Your general knowledge does not count.
This rule matters more for nurses than for other candidates. You know hospital procedures from your work. The text can describe a different procedure. If the text and your practice disagree, the text wins.

Liebe Angehörige,
zum Schutz unserer Patientinnen und Patienten bitten wir Sie, beim Betreten und beim Verlassen der Station Ihre Hände zu desinfizieren. Die Spender finden Sie direkt neben der Eingangstür und vor jedem Zimmer. Verteilen Sie das Mittel gründlich auf beiden Händen und lassen Sie es 30 Sekunden einwirken. Händewaschen mit Seife ist nur nötig, wenn Ihre Hände sichtbar verschmutzt sind.
Bei Patientinnen und Patienten mit einer ansteckenden Infektion hängt ein gelbes Schild an der Zimmertür. Melden Sie sich in diesem Fall bitte vor dem Besuch beim Pflegepersonal. Wir zeigen Ihnen dann, wie Sie Schutzkittel und Handschuhe richtig anlegen. Handschuhe ersetzen die Händedesinfektion nicht.
Topfpflanzen dürfen Sie aus hygienischen Gründen nicht mitbringen. Schnittblumen in einer Vase sind dagegen erlaubt.

The 5 items
Decide for each item: richtig or falsch?
- Angehörige sollen sich die Hände nur beim Betreten der Station desinfizieren.
- Vor jedem Patientenzimmer gibt es einen Spender für Desinfektionsmittel.
- Nach der Desinfektion sollen Besucher die Hände zusätzlich mit Seife waschen.
- Auch mit Handschuhen müssen Besucher die Hände desinfizieren.
- Besucher dürfen keine Blumen auf die Station mitbringen.
The real exam has 3 items per text. This practice text has 5 items, so you can practise more traps on one text.
Answers: which sentence decides each item
1. falsch. The text says „beim Betreten und beim Verlassen der Station". The word nur in the item removes the second occasion.
2. richtig. The text says „Die Spender finden Sie … vor jedem Zimmer." The item uses Patientenzimmer and Spender für Desinfektionsmittel. The words are different, but the meaning is the same.
3. falsch. The text names soap, but only with a condition: „nur nötig, wenn Ihre Hände sichtbar verschmutzt sind". The item removes the condition and adds the word zusätzlich.
4. richtig. The text says „Handschuhe ersetzen die Händedesinfektion nicht." The item says the same thing in a positive sentence. Negation in the text does not make the item falsch.
5. falsch. The text forbids Topfpflanzen but allows Schnittblumen in einer Vase. The item says keine Blumen, so it is too general.
3 mistakes candidates make in Teil 4
Mistake 1: answering from professional knowledge
Many hospitals do not allow any flowers on a ward. A nurse with this experience can mark item 5 as richtig. The text allows cut flowers, so the item is falsch. Before you mark an answer, find the sentence in the text. If you cannot find a sentence, read the text again.
Mistake 2: matching words instead of meaning
Item 1 contains the word Betreten. The same word is in the text, so the item looks richtig. The item is falsch because of nur. Watch these small words in each item:
- nur, immer, nie
- alle, kein, jeder
- zusätzlich, auch, sofort
These words often decide the answer. They make the item stronger or narrower than the text.
Mistake 3: missing a condition or an exception
Item 3 mentions soap, and the text also mentions soap. A fast reader stops there and marks richtig. The text limits soap to one case: visibly dirty hands. Conditions often use wenn, falls or bei. Exceptions and contrasts often use außer, nur or dagegen. If the text has a condition, check that the item keeps it.
How to work through Teil 4 in the exam
Use these steps for each Teil 4 text:
- Read the 3 items before you read the text.
- Underline the key noun and the small words (nur, kein, immer) in each item.
- Read the text and find one sentence for each item.
- Compare the meaning, not the words.
- Mark falsch if the item adds, removes or changes one detail.
- Check the clock before you start the next text.
