What a generated cloze test looks like

One real example

Lückentext · Niveau A2 · Präpositionen

Am Wochenende fahre ich oft ___ (1) meinen Großeltern. Sie wohnen ___ (2) einem kleinen Dorf in der Nähe ___ (3) Stadt. Wenn das Wetter gut ist, gehen wir zusammen ___ (4) Wald spazieren.

(1) zu ✓(2) in ✓(3) der ✓(4) in den ✓

Every generation is a new passage on a new topic — this is just one example.

Why a generator beats a fixed worksheet

Most Lückentext practice comes from the same handful of textbook passages, which means learners eventually recall the missing word from memory rather than working it out from grammar or context — exactly the skill a cloze test is supposed to train. A generator that writes a new passage every time keeps the underlying skill in play instead of testing recall of a specific text.

soruLab's German Workbench lets you choose the CEFR level (A1–B2+), the topic, and the gap focus — prepositions and cases, verb conjugation, connectors, or general vocabulary — and writes a fresh passage with blanks and a printable answer key in seconds.

Common questions

What is a Lückentext / cloze test, exactly?

A Lückentext is a passage with certain words removed and replaced by blanks. The learner fills each blank from context, from a word bank, or by choosing the correct grammatical form. It is one of the most common exercise types in German textbooks and in exams such as the Goethe-Zertifikat and telc (Sprachbausteine).

What kinds of gaps can soruLab generate?

You can generate vocabulary gaps (choosing the right word for the context), grammar gaps (correct case, verb conjugation, or preposition), and connector gaps (weil, obwohl, trotzdem, deshalb). You choose the focus and the CEFR level, A1 through B2+.

Can I reuse the same cloze test with different gap types?

Each generation produces a fresh passage rather than reusing a fixed text, so you always get new content — but you can generate again on the same topic with a different gap focus (e.g. grammar one time, vocabulary the next) to practice the same theme from different angles.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. Every generated cloze test includes a printable answer key, and you can add English explanations as an optional appendix so learners understand why each answer is correct.
